Soothsaying Slave … Acts 16:16-18

• 16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
• 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
• 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

A “soothsayer” or diviner confirms Paul’s Mission from God; so Paul & Silas call on Jesus to remove her powers of divination. This soothsayer was a slave, and losing her powers enraged her owners who have Paul & Silas beaten and imprisoned for disturbing the peace and teaching atheism against the gods/customs of the Greco-Romans.

Omniscience:

Why would God do anything in the Bible knowing that the rest of History would still happen? Usually, in His name?

Why are there are some things that God doesn't know and can't see?

• Genesis 3:8-9: "So the LORD God called out to the man, 'Where are you?'"
• Genesis 4:14-16: After Cain killed Abel, he "went out from the presence of the lord" and "hid" in the land of Nod from the face of God.
• Gen 11:4-5 "The Lord came down to see the city and the tower [of babel]" (it wasn't visible from Everywhere?)
• Genesis 18:1-9: The LORD appeared unto him [Abraham] in the plains of Mamre... And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

As God pondered murdering everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah, he asked himself, "Shall I hide from Abraham the thing that I do?"

God had to come down to Sodom to see if the Sodomites were as bad as he'd heard.

And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and, if not, I will know. Genesis 18:20-21

God didn't know that Abraham feared God until Abraham showed his willingness to murder his son for God.

For now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. Genesis 22:12

After God lost a wrestling match with Jacob, he asked Jacob his name. (God didn't know who he was wrestling with.)

And he [God] said unto him [Jacob], What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.... Before opening the mouth of Balaam's ass (Numbers 22:28-20), he asked Balaam who were the men that were with him.
