(Fezer comes from the German for Iron Miner, and Rieber is the German for Farmer or “Strong One”, Kirchartz is a combination of Chuch and Doctor, presumably a location-based name instead of career-based, they would be the plot of land between the church and the doctor, perhaps?)

The Beaver Valley Brush Works. - This plant was at first operated by Stauffer & Pfeffer on the present site of the First National Bank. Later, George E. Smith and J. E. Kirchartz went into it. It was moved from the place above named to the old Masonic block, and from there to Fallston. Another brush works was operated by a man named Potter on the present site of Pfaff Brothers’ store.

Age 86, of Murrysville, formerly of Penn Hills, died of dementia, March 28, 2012 at Arden Courts of Monroeville. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Parker Mohn; children, Kimberly K. Barlow of Pittsburgh and Keith S. Mohn (Marylou) of 29 Palms, CA; grandchildren, Joel Kirchartz (Ashley), Ian Barlow, Curtis, Dennis and Amanda Mohn, and great-grandson, Logan Kirchartz; also survived by sister-in-law, Marge Vidonic (the late James D. Parker). Bill was the son of the late Casimer and Pearle J. Mohn of Wilkinsburg. Like his father, Bill loved to golf. A World War II veteran, Bill served as an Army mess sergeant in Germany and Japan. In 1948, he became a Mason in the Archie K. Henderson Lodge 45. Following his retirement from a career in pharmaceutical sales, he devoted his time to Shrine and Masonic organizations. A life member of Syria Shrine, Bill played drum in the Oriental Band, served as commander of the Legion of Honor (2002) and was chairman of Penn Hills Caravan (1993), among other activities. His proudest accomplishment was being chief aide for Potentate Jim Frye in 1998. Bill was a member of Trinity Tower United Methodist Church for many years and most recently attended Holiday Park UMC. Visitation Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the FINDLAY C. WYLIE FUNERAL HOME, 11311 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Erie PA. Betty Jane (Parker) Mohn Obituary (2017, Plum Creeek Cemetery)

Age 90, died June 5, 2017, at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg, of complications from pneumonia. Born September 29, 1926, in Bellevue, PA, the daughter of James D. and Elsie (Walters) Parker, Betty was a 1944 graduate of Avalon High School and Duff’s Business College. Her secretarial career was mainly in the insurance sector. She retired in 1991 following a decade as private secretary to Fred Brand, Jr. Formerly of Penn Hills, Betty more recently lived at Clover Ridge and at Redstone Highlands in Murrysville. She was preceded in death in 2012 by her husband of 56 years, William S. Mohn. She is survived by children, Kimberly K. Barlow, of Pittsburgh and Keith S. (Marylou) Mohn, of 29 Palms, CA; grandchildren, Joel (Ashley) Kirchartz, Ian Barlow and Curtis, Amanda and Dennis Mohn; great-grandchildren, Logan and Ivy Kirchartz; and sister-in-law, Marge (the late James D. Parker) Vidonic. Throughout her life Betty enjoyed shopping, gardening, reading, and corresponding via beautifully handwritten letters. She maintained an interest in current events and was a loyal follower of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and made many happy memories with her Syria Shrine Caravan 20 friends. Betty delighted in the devoted care provided since 2013 by the ever-patient and indulgent Redstone Greensburg skilled care staff. Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at FINDLAY C. WYLIE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11311 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017. Interment in Plum Creek Cemetery.
